In the foreground you can view the small sports pavilion building, hockey, tennis, croquet were played here. It was located on what was then the Brownlee Domain which consisted of 2 acres and 29 perches and it had frontages to Nicholson & Outram Streets. The present Havelock School is now located on this site. Also in view diagonally across from the pavilion can be seen the back view of Saint Mary's Catholic Church. Church Services were advertised in the Marlborough Express Newspaper from 1881.
