The Township with Mount Takorika looming in the background. The wharf at the foot of Cook Street is identifiable. As always the harbour channel created a navigation problem and gathering silt aggravated the situation. All sorts of channel markers were tried, ranging from humble Manuka stakes to tripod beacons. Most of these attempts succumbed to floods or straying vessels.
