In the foreground the two cottages nearest the camera are showing evidence of well established fruit trees. The backyard served multiple purposes. It usually included a shed or three – a wood shed, a tool shed and a chicken shed. Compost bins, dog kennels, incinerators, garages and clothes lines were also found in backyards. Passed the 3 cottages in a line (Lawrence Street) - A good line of washing is strung up behind the cottages - is St Mary's Catholic Church and directly across partly obscured by trees the Public School.
